In God's Hands

Read:
Romans 9:19-26
Psalm 1

O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done?declares the LORD. Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel. Jeremiah 18:6 A well-known insurance company boasts if we do business withthem, we will be “in good hands.” It is easy to see how that sloganwould appeal to a person going through a time of trial and trouble.When a crisis strikes, we want to where to turn for help. We want to know where we can put our trust and who will not let us down.Unfortunately, when we rely on people and human institutions,there is no guarantee that our problems will go away. In the mostdifficult times, it may seem that even God has failed us, leaving us to face life’s troubles alone. The people of God, like us, often found themselves stumbling in thedarkness, crying out for God to be there. And He always was, in His own way. The prophet Jeremiah delivers this message from

God: Trust Me, I’m not finished shaping you yet. Like a potter lovingly shaping the clay, our God is at work in our brokenplaces, drawing us ever closer to Him. Whatever we face in life, His loving hands are there to create something beautiful out of it.

Lord, I believe. Continue to shape me in Your image. Amen.

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

We are to begin each day with God. Every breath we take should be a powerful reminder that our Father has granted us another day of life to serve him. Each heartbeat is God's drumbeat of love, reminding us that we are blessed with another minute to offer him our best. This blessing is so easily forgotten. We best remember these truths when we teach them and show them and live them with and before our children. But, let's not leave their learning these truths to our example alone. Let's find teachable moments to explain our faith, to praise our Heavenly Father, and to teach God's truth.

My Prayer...

Almighty God, Gracious Sustainer, and Undeserved Friend, thank you! Thank you for this breath I take and for the heartbeat that sustains my life. Make me aware as I travel and talk and rest and work that you are there and are worthy of my intentional best. In the name of Jesus, my gracious sacrifice I pray. Amen.

FT. HOOD vs. ISRAEL

Israelis Baffled by News of Defenseless US Soldiers


Many Israelis want to know: why didn't the soldiers attacked by a U.S. Army major-turned-terrorist return fire?
When a Muslim goes, well, Muslim in Israel he is typically shot to death by someone--say, a reserve soldier--within seconds of screaming "Allah Akbar."

In contrast with the Israeli experience, it took 10 minutes before a civilian police officer at Fort Hood was able to shoot and stop Muslim fanatic Nidal Malik Hasan.

How could that happen? How could so many people trained in the strategies and tactics of modern warfare be so defenseless?

The answer--and this may astonish many Americans--is that the victims were unarmed. U.S. soldiers are not allowed to carry guns for personal protection, even on a 340-acre base quartering more than 50,000 troops.

So it goes in brain-dead, liberal America .

Fort Hood is a "gun free" zone, thanks to regulations adopted in one of the very first acts signed into law by anti-gun President Bill Clinton in March, 1993. Click here for the file. Contrary to President Obama's crocodile tears, his administration is bent on further disarming the U.S. military, and all Americans. Obama and his people will not rest until every American is a sitting duck..

POSTscript: Israeli teachers, from kindergarten on up, are also armed; so, a Virginia Tech-type slaughter is highly unlikely at an Israeli university.

Israelis, who have had to combat terrorism all their lives, are not afraid of guns. They are an armed people, ready, willing, and able to defend themselves and their country.

Unlike indoctrinated Americans, paralyzed by fear and political correctness, Israelis understand that people, kill people, not guns!

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

We sing it and we say it in our public prayers: "Father, God, we love you." But notice very carefully the beginning phrase of our verse. "I love you, O Lord..." Even in public, community worship, we are taught the importance of a personal expression of love to God. When is the last time you told the Creator of the universe, "I love you!"

My Prayer...

Father in heaven, I love you. I love you because you are more than worthy of my love. I love you because you have first loved me. I love you because you sent your son to be my big brother and pay the price for my adoption into your family. I love you because of your faithfulness. I love you because you have permitted me in your grace to love you. In the name of Jesus I thank you. Amen.

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Humble yourselves. That sounds obscene. At least to the "get ahead at all cost" and "don't look back because the competition is gaining on you" culture of self-promotion, it sounds obscene. Humility is a forgotten virtue. Often confused with weakness or timidity, humility is about knowing our proper place in the world without flaunting it. Only God can exalt in a permanent way, so the key is to know our place before him and let him put us in the place he chooses.

My Prayer...

Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing me into your presence. When I think of all that you have done, the incredible universe you have made and hold together by your word, I am amazed you invite me into your presence. I am amazed that you even care about my choice of words. Thank you for knowing me and having a plan for my life. Help me to live each day with humility and grace before others as I seek to glorify you in all things. Through Jesus I pray. Amen.

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Our actions follow our thoughts like a heat seeking missile follows the exhaust of a jet fighter's engine. So in a day when so much around us trains us to find the negative in life, we must aggressively think and pursue the character, the qualities, and the things of God's goodness.

My Prayer...

God, thank you for being better than anything my world can offer me. Thank you for calling me to a higher standard than the world accepts. Thank you for giving me the promise of a better future than any human can imagine. Thank you for giving me a high calling to live up to you. In Jesus' holy name I pray. Amen.
